The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) announced a shooting investigation in the Southwest District.

On June 18, at approximately 6:12 p.m., officers responded to the 4500 block of Edmondson Avenue to investigate a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a 23-year-old female victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was participating in a firearm training course at the location. During the course, the instructor was demonstrating how to render a firearm safely when the firearm accidentally discharged, striking the victim. The instructor was taken into custody and questioned.

Southwest District shooting detectives responded to the scene and assumed control of the investigation.
