A jury found 25-year-old Keshawn Luckey guilty on May 28 of attempted second-degree murder, firearm use and possession as a prohibited person, and related firearm charges for attempting to shoot a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) officer on June 20, 2024. The incident occurred in the Upton neighborhood on the 400 block of Dolphin Street.
Despite pleading not guilty to all charges, the jury only acquitted him on the charge of attempted first-degree murder.
Area video surveillance and police body-worn cameras captured the incident, as well as multiple officers trying to apprehend Luckey. Officers found two shell casings in Luckey’s backpack.
During his arrest, Luckey told officers without prompting, “I’m not the shooter, I didn’t shoot anyone.”
However, his appearance was consistent with the suspect seen in the footage, and multiple witnesses confirmed the identification.
Defense attorney David Greenbaum claimed the prosecution overcharged Luckey, claiming his client never intended to kill. If anything, he said, Luckey was “intending to put distance between” himself and the officers.
Luckey is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 10 before Judge Jeffrey M. Geller.
