Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland set a June plea hearing date for murder suspect Jermal Lundy, 25, on May 10.
Lundy is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a violent crime, and two counts of firearm possession with a previous disqualifying felony conviction in connection to the murder of Ira Truman Linton, Jr., 46.
According to charging documents, on Nov. 9, 2024, at approximately 6:25 p.m., officers responded to the 4200 block of Powell Avenue for a report of an unresponsive man.
Upon arrival, officers located Linton suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and immediately began rendering CPR. Medics responded and attempted to administer medical care. Linton was transported to the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:08 p.m.
On Nov. 1, 2023, Linton had been acquitted by jury of his alleged involvement in a Jan. 2, 2023 shooting that occurred outside Belair Road’s City Line Bar and Grill.
Officers conducted an area canvas and recovered video surveillance footage from area businesses and one personal residence. Footage captured a white four-door BMW with a sunroof driving east in the 4200 block of Powell Avenue before parking. An unknown man and a person said to be Jermal Lundy were seen exiting the passenger side of the vehicle and walking west toward The Hub Sports Bar at the 6000 block of Belair Road. Lundy appeared to be wearing gray pants, a dark-colored hoodie, white T-shirt, and black-and-yellow shoes.
Lundy was purportedly seen walking back toward the BMW on the 4200 block of Powell Avenue with Linton, who was wearing a satchel around his shoulder. At the BMW, Lundy appears to pull a firearm from his front waist and turned to face Linton. A brief physical altercation ensued, and Linton produced his own firearm. The two exchanged gunfire, and both sustained gunshot wounds.
Linton collapsed next to the BMW, while Lundy fled the scene on foot. The unknown male drove the car eastbound on Powell Avenue before dropping Lundy off at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Officers recovered Lundy’s clothing from the hospital.
On Nov. 11, Lundy was interviewed and taped on police body-worn cameras. He allegedly admitted to meeting up with a man called “Nick,” who was wearing a satchel at the time of the incident and whom he allegedly owed $3,600. Lundy alleged “Nick” fired at him, but did not admit to having a gun.
On Nov. 19, officers took Lundy into custody.
Lundy’s plea hearing is set for June 10 before Judge Copeland.
