Dionte Cain, 31, received a Sept. 26 trial date before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on April 30. Cain’s trial is set to last four days to accommodate the prosecution’s 13 witnesses.
Cain is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, armed robbery, firearm use in a violent crime, reckless endangerment, and related firearm and conspiracy violations in connection to an attempted armed robbery that occurred April 2, 2024, at a parking lot in the 5300 block of York Road.
According to court documents, Cain and getaway driver Darnell Johnson, 28, approached and threatened the victim. Cain and Johnson fled in a burgundy Acura MDX SUV. Responding officers located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his wrist and thigh.
On April 18, Johnson accepted a plea offer of 12 years to serve. The full deal consists of 20 years, suspending all but 12, for firearm use in a violent crime, as well as a concurrent five years, suspending all but two, for having a handgun on his person. He will serve three years of supervised probation following completion of his sentence.
Cain is represented by defense attorney Natalie A. Finegar, who was not present at the hearing.
