Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn Stewart Mays sentenced 25-year-old Darrean Fleming to life in prison on March 13 for first-and second-degree murder. Those counts were merged along with a three year conviction for having a handgun in a vehicle to be served concurrently. Fleming was convicted on Jan. 16 in a legal proceeding that’s continued for more than two years.
Fleming and his co-defendants Wesley Lambert, 22, and Garry Morris, 24, were initially charged with first-and second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime and having a handgun in his vehicle in connection to the death of 20-year-old Amare Burruss in a drive-by shooting on Dec. 7, 2022.
Footage captured from a nearby Dollar General store showed Burruss firing multiple times from an extended 9mm gun at a man who was seemingly friends with the suspects. Following the barrage, footage captured four individuals whom detectives later identified as Morris, Lambert, Fleming and a friend entering a gray Acura TL.
The trio allegedly chased Burruss from the 4400 block of Park Heights Avenue to the 4200 block of Pimlico Road, where police responders found Burruss deceased with a gunshot wound to his head.
The man presumed to be Fleming entered the driver’s seat, Morris the passenger’s seat and Lambert entered the back of the vehicle. The fourth man remained outside as the vehicle drove away.
The prosecution stressed that Fleming, who was not captured firing a gun, was still guilty of murder as an accomplice.
Lambert was found guilty in May 22, 2024 of two counts of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime and having a handgun in a vehicle. Morris’ trial is set for March 20 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Nicole Barmore.
No further proceedings were scheduled.
