Attempted Murder Suspect May Face Less Punishment Because of Age

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland approved a motion to reschedule 19-year-old attempted murder defendant Anthony Berry’s hearing to March 18 to allow counsel time to deliberate whether to consider a reduced sentence for Berry, if convicted, because he was 17 at the time of his alleged crime.

Berry faces 11 charges, including attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and having a handgun on his person in connection to a Feb. 18, 2024 incident in the 400 block of South Broadway.

According to a press release, officers responded to reports of a double shooting and discovered two 21-year-old male victims at the scene. One victim sustained a graze wound to the body and the other sustained gunshot wounds to the body.
