A first-degree assault defendant was sentenced by a Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge after pleading guilty on Oct. 16.
According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, 24-year-old Daykai Quarles is charged with first degree assault of a neighbor on August 10, 2022, after a dispute that turned into shooting.
The state’s attorney, Charlotte Dobson, and the defendant’s attorney, James Sweeting III, reached an agreement after Quarles pleaded guilty on Oct. 16. Judge Levi S. Zaslow accepted the terms of the plea deal, and sentenced Quarles to 25 years incarceration, suspending all but time served, and four years of supervised probation. Quarles is also required to follow a mental health treatment and to stay away from the victim.
His sentencing had been pushed to Oct. 21 to give the victim time to prepare an impact statement as required by law. However, he victim did not show up at the hearing.
