Attempted Murder Suspect Unknown Due to Poor Quality Video Surveillance, Defense Argues

Defense counsel for alleged shooter and drug trafficking conspirator Keith Miller asked jurors to pay attention to the details of the case at trial, which she said will not reveal any evidence linking her client to an attempted murder in December 2022.

Miller is currently on trial for the attempted murder of a man at the intersection of Frederick Avenue and Calverton Road on Dec. 19, 2022. In addition to attempted first-degree murder, the defendant also faces several drug and weapons charges, including participating in a criminal organization.

The trial began on Sept. 3 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Alan C. Lazerow, with defense attorney Roya Hanna representing Miller.

According to the prosecution, Miller—who also goes by the nickname, “Drop”—participated in the trafficking of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine throughout Baltimore City. Although his involvement dates back to 2021, she said, it was on Dec. 19, 2022, when Miller was accused of walking up behind the victim and shooting him.

During the Baltimore Police Department’s investigation, detectives used wire taps and heard about the defendant’s alleged participation in the drug organization, she said.

“The charges here are big,” said Hanna, who told the jury that they would not be able to determine who was involved based on the quality of the city’s surveillance footage”

“You can say things, but when you look at the details, it turns out not to be true,” she said.

Hanna noted that city surveillance footage shows two people in the area followed by a shooting, but viewers will be unable to see their faces. Neither weapons nor phone evidence placed either the defendant or the victim at the scene, she concluded.
