Scheduling Hearing Postponed for Eastern District Murder Co-Defendants

Two men accused of an Eastern District murder late last year continued to wait for a trial date after a hearing in Baltimore City Circuit Court Sept. 20 only yielded a continuance.

Joseph Walker, 49, and Joseph Coates, 40, are both charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, firearm use in a felony violent crime, conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony violent crime and firearm possession with a felony conviction for the Dec. 15, 2023, murder of 26-year-old Marvin Jackson.

Because Walker’s attorney Josh Insley will be joining the Baltimore County Office of the Public Defender, Coates’ attorney Janet Andersen agreed to continue the case to allow time for another attorney to be assigned.

The prosecutor also mentioned that the DNA results are still pending, so no plea offer was relayed in court Friday.

Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled the co-defendants’ next hearing for Oct. 4.

According to a Baltimore Police Department press release, Jackson was shot on the 1800 block of Aiken Street and later died despite medical intervention.
