New Trial Date Set for Non-Fatal Shooting Defendant

A non-fatal shooting defendant indicted on 29 charges related to an incident received a new trial date during a reception court hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Judge Melissa K. Copeland  on Aug. 28.  

Sean Cherry, 21, is accused of attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and firing a gun among multiple other counts for a non-fatal shooting that occurred on Sept. 16, 2023. 

Cherry was offered a deal in May, which would have sentenced him to 60 years, suspending all but 45 years in prison with five years on probation, as well as registering as a gun offender if he pleaded guilty to several counts including attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and reckless endangerment. However, he rejected the offer.

The prosecution said they would need three days for the trial, which was originally scheduled for Aug. 26. Cherry, who attended the session on Zoom while in detention, was represented by Christopher O’Meara.  

Judge Copeland set the updated trial date for Nov. 1 to be argued before  Judge Alan C. Lazerow.
