Baltimore Man Pleads Guilty for 18 Year Sentence in Non-Fatal Shooting

A 31-year-old man accused of shooting another person in Southwest Baltimore last December pleaded guilty to three of the related charges on Aug. 20 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy.

Demetrius Wilson initially rejected the 18 year plea offer in May, but agreed to plead guilty to first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony or violent crime and having a loaded handgun on his person during his proceeding Tuesday morning. Wilson received 25 years, suspending all but 13 years, for first-degree assault and a consecutive 20 years, suspending all but five years without parole, for firearm use in a felony or violent crime.

The third remaining count was merged with his other sentences. Additional charges against Wilson were dismissed, including attempted first and second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, firing a gun in Baltimore City, firearm possession with a felony conviction and illegal possession of ammunition.

According to the prosecution, the Baltimore Police Department were called to the 3300 block of Frederick Avenue around 1:40 p.m. on Dec. 6, 2023, after receiving a ShotSpotter alert. Police found the victim with a single gunshot wound to the thigh. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In addition to the aforementioned plea, Judge Handy agreed to waive Wilson’s court costs. Wilson was represented by defense attorney Rodney Gray.
