A 44-year-old man has been charged in connection to the murder of Lezatte Jackson nearly a year ago.

The Baltimore Police Department reported that Cornelius Hayes was arrested on Oct. 27 and charged with first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, and reckless endangerment.

According to police, officers were called to a home on the 1200 block of N. Woodyear Street around 7:25 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2020, when they found Jackson, 48, who was unresponsive with a gunshot wound to her back.

Medics arrived and pronounced the victim dead.

On Wednesday last week, Hayes was arrested and charged. He was denied bail and is being held at the Baltimore City Central Booking Intake Facility.

Hayes is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 1 in Baltimore City District Court, according to the Maryland Judiciary website.
