A Baltimore man will serve the next 35 years in prison after pleading guilty on Oct. 30 to fatally shooting 18-year-old Jeremiah Williamson and burning the victim’s body alongside the CSX train tracks in June 2022.
Jerritt Barron, 22, appeared for a jury trial on Wednesday before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Ronald A. Silkworth. After the prosecutor discussed the plea offer with the victim’s family, Barron and his defense attorney, James Sweeting III, agreed to the terms.
The defendant pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for a life sentence, suspending all but 35 years, and firearm use in a felony or violent crime for a concurrent 20 years. He will also serve five years of supervised probation.
According to the prosecutor, Baltimore Police found Williamson’s body faced down and on fire next to the train tracks on the 2500 block of Georgetown Road on June 22, 2022. Medics confirmed the victim was shot once in the head and that his body was set on fire after the shooting.
Car keys belonging to a 2009 black Honda Accord were also found at the scene. The prosecutor said the vehicle had reportedly been stolen during a carjacking earlier that day on Key Highway and was found burned 20 yards away from where Williamson’s body was found.
The victim of the carjacking later identified the keys, the prosector noted, and Barron was linked to the carjacking.
In November 2023, Barron was convicted for the murder of 21-year-old Kevin Moody—only one week before Williamson’s murder.
