A jury acquitted a Baltimore man of attempted murder before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams on March 12, but convicted him on seven other counts in connection to a downtown shooting last January.
Antonio Mackey, 22, was initially charged with attempted murder, assault, firearm use, reckless endangerment and three gun offenses for the shooting, which occurred the morning of Jan. 29, 2025 on the 200 block of Clay Street.
The incident, which was caught on surveillance footage, left the victim with a gunshot wound to the hip. A man wearing a mask and a grey jacket was reportedly seen pushing the victim, which led to shots being fired.
At trial, defense attorney John Deros argued for Mackey’s acquittal due to insufficient evidence. To support his claims, he called the surveillance footage unclear and emphasized a lack of witness identification in the case.
Mackey is set to be sentenced April 20 before Judge Williams.
