Defendant Scott Jay accepted a guilty plea before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Yvette M Bryant on July 28. Jay is accused of shooting a firearm at three unidentified men on the afternoon of Sept. 27, 2024 around the 900 block of Round Road.

Jay is charged with three counts of first degree assault, possession of a firearm with a prior felony conviction, and other various firearm charges. He is represented by defense attorney Avrohom Greenfield who claimed the case was much more complicated than it initially appeared.

Greenfield said Jay had been robbed by these three individuals earlier that day and they had taken his wallet and house key. Jay told his lawyer that he felt he was in serious danger and said the individuals came back to shoot at him later that evening.

When Baltimore Police officers found Jay at his home, they recovered a 9mm handgun but observed injuries his sustained from the robbery.

Jay accepted a plea agreement for one count of first- degree assault with a five-year sentence; one count of firearm use in a crime of violence, carrying a five-year sentence without the possibility of parole; and one count of firearm possession with a prior felony conviction for which he received 12 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole. All three sentences are to run concurrently.

Jay said he was accepting the plea deal because it was in his best interest but asserted his innocence.

Jay’s fiance and sister in law were present in the courtroom. His brother, John Jay is listed as a co-defendant in this case. As he exited the courtroom Scott Jay told his fiance that he loved her and to “tell my brother I love him”.
