A double homicide defendant was again ruled incompetent to stand trial on July 1, resulting in another postponement in a case that is almost four years old.

Dandre Woods-Bethel, 28, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, five counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, three counts of attempted first-degree murder and having a handgun on his person in connection with an incident that took place in September 2020.

Woods-Bethel was originally deemed incompetent in January 2023, but after a mental health review a year later, the defendant received a July 1 trial date. However, the Maryland Judiciary website shows that a motion for a competency evaluation was filed on June 4, affirming the original finding that Woods-Bethel is not able to understand the charges against him or participate in his own defense.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department officers responded to 2800 block of Clifton Park Terrace on Sept. 12, 2020, where they found 46-year-old Julie Rice and 23-year-old Michelle Green with gunshot wounds, both of whom died. Woods-Bethel allegedly shot the two women before calling 911, informing them of his actions.

Woods-Bethel’s next mental health court date has yet to be scheduled.
