Montay Anthony Brown, 20, was sentenced to life plus 20 years on Jan. 15 for using a firearm to carry out the murder of Garfield Redd, 34, in East Baltimore last May.
Brown’s sentencing comes almost three months after he was found guilty of all charges last Halloween before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge LaZette C. Ringgold-Kirksey.
According to court records and surveillance footage, Brown, who was 19 years old at the time of Redd’s murder on May 6, 2024, approached the driver’s side window of the victim’s 2006 black Acura TLX at an intersection on Charles Street before producing a sawed-off shotgun from his backpack and shooting Redd in the left eye. He then fled the scene on foot.
By the time officers reached the scene, Redd’s car had crashed onto a sidewalk on the unit block of E. 21st Street. The bullet had gone through his left eye, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified Brown after receiving an anonymous tip that provided his phone number and Instagram account. Just 11 days after Redd’s death, on May 15, 2024, officers arrested Brown on the same street where Redd died.
