Dionte Cain, 32, rejected a plea offer before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on Feb. 18.

On April 2, 2024, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) responded to a report of a shooting in the 3900 block of Greenmount Avenue and found an adult male with gunshot wounds to his left wrist and right thigh.

Investigators recovered video surveillance footage from the area that showed the victim drive out of a lot before another vehicle entered with Cain allegedly in the passenger’s seat. A person identified as Cain approaches the victim’s driver side window and opens fire.

Cain faces 19 charges, including attempted first- and second- degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, reckless endangerment, and armed robbery, as well as related conspiracy and firearm charges.

The prosecution offered a plea deal of 30 years, suspending all but 15, for attempted second-degree murder. The deal also included a concurrent five years for firearm use in a felony violent crime and three years supervised probation, no contact with the victim, and registry as a gun offender upon his release.

Defense attorney Natalie A. McKeown Finegar, who had only received the deal over the weekend, rejected the plea on behalf of Cain.

Cain’s attempted murder trial is set to start April 28 and last two days.
