Nearly two years after a car in the Northwestern District of Baltimore was shot at and vandalized, a defendant accepted responsibility for the shooting on May 17.
Davon Wright, 19, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and firearm use during a felony violent crime for shooting at a vehicle after it had been vandalized and crashed into a residence on the 5200 block of Cuthbert Avenue on Feb. 5, 2022.
Wright was originally charged with first and second-degree assault, firearm use during a felony violent crime, carrying/wearing a handgun on person, loaded handgun in vehicle, discharging a firearm, and malicious destruction of property over $1,000.
The defendant pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and firearm use during a felony violent crime. According to the plea deal, he was sentenced to 10 years, suspending all but five years for assault, and five years without parole for the handgun charge. The handgun sentence is set to run concurrent to the sentence for the assault charge. Wright must also register as a gun offender and serve four years on probation.
If he successfully completes his sentence term and probation, he may be considered for a modified sentence of probation before conviction.
On the day of the incident, a woman got into an argument with another individual because she refused to give him a ride the day before. The individual proceeded to throw a bricks at the front and rear windshield of the car. The individual also pointed a gun at the woman, according to a statement of facts read by the prosecution.
The woman, who was in the car, drove towards the individual, crashing into the side of a residence.
After the car hit the residence, Wright, who had been given a gun at the time of the crash, fired one shot at the car. A bullet hole was observed on the rear driver’s side.
According to the statement of facts from the prosecution, Wright, who was 17 years old when the crime was committed, fired at the woman’s vehicle after it crashed into the residence.
Wright was charged with the crime on July 13, 2022. He will receive credit for time served since that date.
