A Baltimore teenager charged with attempted murder rejected a plea offer of 20 years with three years on probation before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn on Feb. 7.
The teenager, who is 18 years old, is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm during a violent crime, having a handgun on his person, and carrying a gun 100 yards in of the public in connection to an incident July 9, 2021.
During reception court on Monday, Judge Phinn listened as the prosecutor presented a plea of 30 years suspending all but 20 years with three years on probation for second-degree attempted murder and10 years, the first five years without parole for use of a firearm during a violent crime. The charges are set to run concurrently.
The defendant and his defense attorney, John Cox, rejected the plea.
According to CBS Baltimore, on July 9, 2021, officers were called to the 3100 block of West North Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m. for reports of a shootout.
The defendant walked into a hospital for injuries related to the shootout, police said. The defendant’s trial is scheduled for July 18 with Judge Charles Peters presiding.
