Elijah Stanley, 21, received a June trial date before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on April 28.

Stanley is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and assault, attempted first-degree murder and assault, and several firearm violations in connection to a March 2, 2024 shooting that occurred near the intersection of the 2300 block of McElderry Street and the 600 block of N. Montford Avenue. The other suspects have yet to be identified.

According to charging documents, Southeast District patrol units received notice via dispatch of a 15-round ShotSpotter alert near the intersection. A responding officer located a crime scene with over 50 pieces of ballistic evidence, including handgun and rifle cartridge casings, fragments and a projectile.

A second officer responded to the location and located a Black male lying on the sidewalk in front of the 600 block of N. Montford Avenue, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A medic transported him to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Officers located four vehicles and one building that appeared to have sustained damages during the incident:

  • A red 2016 BMW 328i with Maryland tags, damages valuing approximately $7,000;
  • A maroon 2003 Lincoln Navigator with Maryland tags, damages valuing approximately $5,000;
  • A gray 2019 Acura MDX with Maryland tags, damages valuing approximately $30,000;
  • A black 1998 Toyota RAV4 with Maryland tags, damages valuing approximately $2,000; and
  • The Hope Community Church at the 2400 block of McElderry Street, damages valuing approximately $5,000.

Multiple cameras in the area captured portions of the incident. Investigators later determined the likely suspect vehicle was a rented 2023 silver Audi Q5 with Illinois tags. Surveillance footage showed the Audi drove onto the 2300 block of McElderry Street before stopping at the intersection of Montford and McElderry. Three armed suspects exited and began shooting in the victim’s direction, damaging the four nearby vehicles and the church. A fourth suspect was seen remaining with the vehicle and firing at the victim from the driver side.

Officers later learned Stanley’s stepfather allegedly rented the Audi from the Enterprise agency. Using CitiWatch footage, they likely confirmed the vehicle was present at his Round Road residence in the Cherry Hill neighborhood. On March 4, Stanley’s stepfather responded to the Southeast District to record a statement about the Audi which he rented for Stanley.

Investigators also obtained Stanley’s cellphone records and confirmed the mobile device was in the ShotSpotter sensor’s proximity at the time of the incident.

Stanley’s three-day jury trial is set to begin June 16 before Judge John A. Howard
