Dear Valued Reader,
My name is Ashleigh Joplin, and I would like to formally introduce myself as the Editor of the Baltimore newsroom for American Witness.
I would like to personally thank you for your support as we work to provide unprecedented transparency to those affected by violence in our communities.
I joined this bustling team in August after falling in love with not only the resources the publication provided to victims, but its dedication to reinvesting in local journalism by training the next generation of reporters through its robust internship program.
After having worked for a national publication for most of my career, sometimes the results from your reporting gets overlooked, but having the opportunity to see these direct results with Baltimore Witness has all been made possible thanks to readers like you.
The most exciting of those projects was the launch of our Victims Notification System (VNS) in November.
The VNS is an easily accessible, free system that keeps victims and their families up to date as their cases move through the criminal justice system.
Too many times, victims, or their loved ones, are unaware of updates in cases as they move through the justice system. In our daily reporting, we have witnessed the frustrations this has caused – and it is infuriating to see. It causes unnecessary harm to victims and their families when they are unable to receive timely and accurate case information as they strive for justice.
Your donation to Baltimore Witness will help us provide valuable instruction to growing journalists who drive the success of our VNS.
Help us continue to support victims of crime in our community and their families today by making a tax-deductible contribution to our year-end goal of raising $15,000.
Now through December 31, 2022, each donation will be matched 1:1 by NewsMatch, an organization dedicated to preserving independent, local journalism like ours.
Your donation is critical. Please donate today.
From our family to yours, we would love to wish you a Happy New Year!
Baltimore Witness EditorNotifications are not yet available for this specific case. Please check back later for updates. Thank you.
